Join us to witness two extraordinary works by prolific artists Vicki Van Hout and Martin Del Amo, revived and reimagined in collaboration with a next generation of artists. Showing Thursday 25 May - Saturday 27 May at PACT Centre for Emerging Artists.
Vicki Van Hout's From Out of The Jungle is presented by emerging artists Amy Flannery and Jye Uren, fusing Van Hout’s distinctive approach to contemporary Aboriginal storytelling and rapier-like wit. Originally created by Vicki to honour Aboriginal scholar Gary Foley's "irreverent sense of humour as one of the performers of the early Black Theatre movement in Redfern and his life as a staunch activist for Aboriginal land and human rights," From Out of the Jungle tackles new political terrain in this version – the upcoming referendum on the First Nations Voice.
UNSEALED by Martin Del Amo explores the concept of ‘losing it,’ jump-cutting between literal and metaphoric states of desire and deterioration. This time, UNSEALED will be presented by up and coming theatre-maker Marcus Whale. Premiered in 2004 at Performance Space, UNSEALED was called “a quietly disturbing, confiding and important work [which] invites our empathy and offers a sad paean to the virtues of melancholy” (RealTime). UNSEALED announced Martin as the master of solo performance he is known as today.
